Notes on a Current Future

Ambiguous loss is the term used to describe the experience of losing someone who remains physically present. The mourning of a mind and soul leaves those who experience ambiguous loss in a state of limbo, which can at once feel volatile and never-ending, as they endeavour to find new ways to coexist with the person they’ve lost.

Notes on a Current Future explores the changes in oneself and one’s ideologies that occur when navigating such a loss. Her meditative process involves a range of approaches, including sculpture-making, staged portraiture, and journeying to significant locations. Monochromatic images depicting bleak landscapes and quiet, tender portraits provide an emotive visual depiction of ambiguous loss, an experience often difficult to explain in words. Notes on a Current Future offers up its interpretive nature to the audience, allowing people to explore and relate their own personal relationship with loss.
